A Christological doctrine attributed to Arius which asserts that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by God the Father and therefore distinct from and subordinate to the Father. It was a major theological controversy addressed at the Council of Nicaea and frequently discussed by Renaissance humanists.
